Two - Column - Script , Without 2 Columns!

Jordan Brown
"George Lucas Revenge of the Director" 4-10-16
AUDIO
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The passion in the original Star Wars trilogy inspires in its fans is unparalleled.
George Lucas, Jr. was raised on a walnut ranch in California. After wanting to become
a pro race car driver ending in a car crash and ruining his dream.
He decided to attend Modesto Junior College before transferring in the University of Southern California film School.
1967 - Warner Brothers awarded George a scholarship to observe the making of Fenian's Rainbow
George years later ends up creating his own company "Lucasfilm Ltd"
1973 George Directs and Writes "American Graffiti" which won the
Golden Globe and 5 Academy Award nominations.
Though production of his next film Star Wars.
Even reusing actors from American Graffiti like Harrison Ford.
Inspired by Flash Gordon Films and Planet of the Ape Films.
Even stealing shots and using them in Star Wars.
George Lucas was a technological terror creating multiple movie advances
1975 creation of I.L.M to produce visual effects on start wars
2000- Creates new physics and processes used today for CGI.
George Lucas was so afraid of his movie he had taken a vacation opening night.
Little did he know it became the biggest grossing movie of all time , for awhile.
Becoming a pop culture of its own.
1980's George becomes busy with the building of Skywalker Ranch, built to accommodate the creative and technological needs of Lucasfilm.
George Focused Heavily on production with all films
Indiana Jones and Star Wars of course.
George often said he wanted to stop creating block busters and create indie films for fun on
his free time now.
So the director that created new technology wants to go back to his roots and not
feel pressured to create a dynamic poetry story.

Docudraft

George Lucas Documentary Draft.

Start

Voice Over ... talking about the schools and ideas that George Lucas got in his younger years and where he grew inspirations

Clips and Panning of Art Works Talking about techniques and Things he did different to create unique films that grasped everyone watching

Middle

Ending
Close with a summary of his basic principles. His own thoughts on his work. How his films and how he is reflected and aged over the years.

Basically this is a really rough draft how i want the concept to go. I want to make it like a story George Lucas would have made, but nothing to complex as that differs from the idea of a documentary based on his art style his life and his legacy.

Work Update 3-20-16

Since the last time we started i had started on the UFO that i was creating for Kyle. As Kyle no longer needed it i decided to work on it still for those 2 weeks or so after i needed up losing everything when i lost my USB and found it wiped in the IMC.

Starting from a frame that was only 1 dimensional. I had no scales or anything it was all hand traced.

Ending up with this 3-d model in 2 weeks with the occasional down time of talk or down time of lesson plans or other odds and ends being shown to us. This will be done by spring break with the extra free time I have.

George Lucas

George Lucas

George lucas is well known for his contributions and creativity behind Star Wars. Even through the trouble of over budgeting and the opinion of the network already considering Star Wars as a loss. George still directed a movie that become the highest grossing film of all time. Following classic plot points of the hero saving the princess, but telling it in a way untold since the birth of film. George Lucas certainly started what is known to be as scifi genre. He borrowed many of his shots of the film and grew inspiration from early ww2 documentaries and movies at the time. Also being friend with steven speilburg since his USC college days he often asked for opinions on his films. Steven told him Star Wars was perfect and George Lucas had self doubt. Something he couldnt get ride of untill the late 90's when he started making films again. George lucas enjoyed the concept of none narrative films. I enjoy George's earlier works as a director, writer and a producer.

Star Wars Episode 4.. Only Star Wars film he directed that was apart of the original trilogy.

The Artist I choose

I choose George Lucas as my artist. Not only because Star Wars has been integrated into culture and how inspiring his films where, but also how he pushed technology advances for films in 2 different centuries.

I pick dis one.

Finally Layering

LAYERING

Takashi Murakami

- Contemporary Japanese artist
- Works in fine arts such as Painting and Sculpting
- Also works in commercial media such as Fashion , Painting and Sculpting
- Coined the term superflat
- Superflat is a post modern art movement influenced by anime/manga

Takashi was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. From a little boy he was inspired and dedicated to anime and animation. He ended up attending T.U.A (Tokyo University of the Arts). Majored in Nihonga known as "Traditional" style for Japanese paintings. Being discovered was hard and he stated since early on a frustration with the lack of a reliable and sustainable art market in post-war Japan. So what he did was become known in western world and moved back to japan. Where he created something rooted in his Japanese culture.

Mr.Wink , Cosmos ball by Takashi Murakami

Things i learned where how to pull elements apart in a piece of artwork.
Takashi uses it in his scults to seperate ideas
i can easily add layering in my models.

Sketch Book Page 2-29

From Desing:

To Blank Wire Mesh:

To actually blending and scultping:

Will finish this production in max 2 weeks from now and currently setting up my art works in an assembly line. Part of each job will be planned and complete before I Start the next step to each one. As I took this straight from work as a line cook. Its easier and more efficient to have the art work transfer through steps instead of tacking things organically messy.

Banksy - Text and Image

Banksy is a street artist and well know for his works such as  "Banksy of England." which is a play on words of "Bank of England" from the art work of a picture of the Queen's head. He was a free hand graffiti artist whose first big work was "The Mild Mild West" Painting. Moving to political views he painted 9 creations to the Israeli West Bank Wall. Another stunt of his was documented and made its debut in 2010 in the Sundance Film Festival. He was nominated for an academy award. The Documentary tells a story about an immigrant from France named Theirry Guetta and his street art. The biggest stunt and most popular followed to banksy's name is his 1 month showing in New York City. Banksy didnt sell a single piece of art work yet they still got sold for over 214k today. Deep symbolism where used in these art works with towering ronald mcdonalds and dumbo shot down my jihadists in a youtube video.

The first piece of art on his 30 days adventure in New York. "Graffiti is a crime" is almost mocking the opinions of how his art work is illegal. Something banksy tackles many times.

Things I've learned about text and image is it is and easy but broad way to express a statement. Artists especially bansky use it to show their views of recent events and political views.
I could use text and image to broaden something from being just a piece of art work but something that can attract better or get you thinking.
The thing that inspired me is the freedom of speech expressed through banksy artwork and how he can just put up texts to show how hes feeling. Even if the image is unrelated.

Hybridity - Ross Ashton

Ross Ashton

Ross was born in sheffield in 1961. Started out as a photographer and moved to London to do projection art. Which he started doing in 1992.

"His years of experience have produced an instinctive understanding of the relationship between artwork and structure, light and surface, object and subject."

Ross targets emotions with structure . Showing symbolism between a concrete device and fluid expression. His piece named Palimpsest contributes to this motive as he stated. "theme of man's need and desire to understand the universe around him, and to pass on knowledge through the generations."

Ross drives with his work mostly making it interactive. He creates artwork where the public has plenty of opportunities to be apart of the show. Also Ross interchanges his art works through the showings. In Palimpsest he shows off a bee trying to symbolize human drive and it switches to a different part .. that in its self is suppose to mean theme of man's need and desire to understand the universe around him, and to pass on knowledge through the generations. Then it goes to a piece of art he says traces the start of communications .

His objective is to create symbolism through projections so a variety of people can see it from so many angels. His art work is always in public display and has even been in films and tv.

I learned a great deal about Hybridity as it can be the way you present your art and not what is just in it. The form of media you advertise your work can have its own simple meaning in its own. Even watching that banksy documentary you could tell it was more intriguing to find his art instead of him just posting it on Instagram. I also found immersion with the simple concepts can be taken away more after someone sees your art even if everyone does feel the same way about your piece. The way i can add to my artwork is with subtle differences with how it is presented maybe through the idea of generalists or with color scenes to set an emotion to an otherwise emotionless image.

Presentation Preparation

Creating A Character Process
I watching this video .. not only because i was a star wars fan but also some of the concepts that went through and the story boarding that Lucas films went through to create a unique character that I personally enjoy.
Steps Of Creating Professional Models/Animations.
Not so much as studying more of an "investigation" of how models and cgi was used and how its still used by this revolutionary process created by lucas films. Seeing how what and why things get animated and created the way that they did.

My Own Work -

Im trying new things so far as we get back into the groove of getting back to work after the seasonal mess. Plans are to create and tell a story with a simple image or render with my models and worlds now.

Ready For PowerPoint * 1-10-2016

I am showing my environment that i have created. Im expanding beyond the simple dimensions of 2 walls and a floor. Yet im keeping in mind my style of simple . So i wont be cluttering with diverse items but have huge 1 giant items in a room or space to grasp the eyes. After the room i will finish my character up while maintaining something that fits with the art style all together.
